Smartphones: Are They Really Smart?

Do smartphones live up to their name?  Smartphones possess some features that are absent in regular cell phones. It is more advanced than a regular mobile phone for its high performance and computing capacity. Did you know that the first smartphone appeared as early as 1992? It was the IBM Simon, which was launched in a computer trade show in Las Vegas, Nevada. Although it was introduced as the first smartphone, the device was then still a concept model. The Simon was not publicly sold by the Bellsouth Company till 1993. The Simon smartphone features an address book, calendar, notepad, calculator and a world clock. Also it highlighted the capability to send and receive faxes and emails, and could play some games.

As technology kept evolving, smartphones evolved too. During the following years, Symbian, Palm, iPhone, Android and Bada appeared in the market, creating a competitive environment for smartphone producers. Each of these products has special features that make them interesting and productive for clients to use.

There are some features of smartphones that make them quite useful and smart. The QWERTY keyboards are available in almost all smartphones now, and this entails easy usage for users who are comfortable with the normal keyboard. Smartphones have quicker access to the Internet either through Wi-Fi or 3G, which makes them so popular among all types of consumers, may they be business people or students.  

The hottest topic about the smartness of smartphones might be iPhone’s Siri. With Siri, the smartphone is more like a robot. The user can get a lot of things done through commands of either voice or typing. You can ask Siri to find the nearest restaurant or cinema for you, and it will come up with the accurate information within a short time span. If you have told Siri about your agenda, then it will remind you in advance. This is quite similar to a secretary. 

From the above analysis, it could be found that smartphones are indeed smart. The smart application of smartphones is actually based on the excellent computing capacity, and this is supported by the advanced hardware and operating system. The present CPU found on high-end smartphones has an up to 1.2 GHz frequency and the RAM is as large as 32 GB. All this ensures the reliability of smartphones. There is another feature that is quite closely related to the smart features of smartphones, and that is wireless technology. Nowadays smartphones can access the Internet though various ways, such as Wi-Fi, 3G and 4G technology. The fast data transmission between the smartphones and Internet contributes to the smartness of smartphones.
